7 Tips for Planning a Stress-Free Wedding Timeline

By Jennifer at Cortiella Photography – Capture your day, naturally.

1. Start with your ceremony time:
Work backward from your ceremony start time. That’ll help anchor the rest of the day, from hair and makeup to the first look and portraits.

2. Consider a first look:
Not only does it calm the nerves, but it also allows for more portrait time and a more relaxed pace overall. You’ll get beautiful, emotional photos before the ceremony, and you’ll get to enjoy cocktail hour together.

3. Do family portraits before the ceremony:
If possible, schedule immediate family portraits right after the first look. That way, your family can head straight to cocktail hour and enjoy themselves without extra waiting.

4. Plan buffer time:
Running late happens — and it’s okay! Build in 10–15 minute buffers between key moments like getting ready, the first look, and the ceremony. You’ll feel less rushed and more present.

5. Think about light:
If you love soft, romantic photos, schedule portraits about 1 to 1.5 hours before sunset. Natural light makes a huge difference and helps everything look and feel beautiful.

6. Make space for real moments:
This day is about more than a schedule. Leave little pockets of time to breathe, connect, and take it all in. Those quiet in-between moments often make for the most meaningful photos.

7. Trust your team:
You don’t have to figure this all out alone. Your planner and photographer have done this countless times — lean on us to help build a timeline that flows naturally and supports your desired vibe.
