Whitney & Colin Wedding at Bonnet House Museum & Gardens
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
~ Lao TzuTo
Colin and Whitney met through friends at graduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Colin proposed 5 years later at 6 AM in front of their Christmas tree at home. Whitney says she was half asleep and very surprised! But it made for a wonderful Christmas with their families who were very happy for them. And that is how we got here, the venue for today's wedding is the gorgeous Bonnet House Museum & Gardens in Fort Lauderdale. It embodies old-world charm and understated elegance. With its beautiful tropical and subtropical plants and its proximity to downtown Fort Lauderdale, this is one of my new favourite venues to shoot weddings. The couples choice of florals were minimalist and worked so beautiful with the natural beauty of the gardens.
Whitney looked stunning in a a chic, ivory skirt and top designed by Black Halo. Her shoes were ivory, satin heels with with rhinestone buckles designed by Stuart Weitzman. Colin looked very fine is his suit! And as the groom, wedding party and then the gorgeous bride walked down the aisle I got to document it all. The outdoor ceremony was so beautiful and I was honored to capture every moment of it. They said their I dos in front of their closest family and friends, a lot of whom had traveled a long distance to be their for them on their special day. Colin and Whitney wrote their own vows, so they were unique to them as a couple which was special. Whitney shared the story behind her wedding band. Her grandfather bartered with wool to purchase this ring for her grandmother during wartime in Germany. They were married for 68 years before she passed, so this is an important symbol of their commitment to each other. And as the sun went down they danced and partied the night away with their nearest and dearest.
Congratulations Colin and Whitney! I wish you all the love and happiness as you start your married life together. Thank you for asking me to be a part of your special day!
